Ev Charger Installation - Wem

A customer in Wem, Shropshire contacted FastAmps ahead of the delivery of a new hybrid vehicle and was referred to KJ Electrical for a home EV charger installation. After discussing the options, a 7kW tethered FastAmps Alpha7 was chosen.

During the initial survey, we agreed a practical charger position, checked the existing electrical supply and planned the new circuit. The property had a TN-C-S supply with a 100A service fuse; its consumer unit was in the garage and the electricity meter was directly outside.

We installed a dedicated EV consumer unit in the garage, carefully positioned so it would not obstruct the garage door. The supply included a 40A Type A bidirectional RCBO, surge protection and a main switch, with EV Ultra cable supplying the charger.

Dedicated EV Supply & Dynamic Load Monitoring

A CT clamp was installed to monitor the property's total electricity demand. This allows the charger to reduce its charging rate automatically if needed, helping prevent the incoming supply from being overloaded.

EV Ultra cable carries both power conductors and data cores within a single cable. That made it possible to provide the load-monitoring connection neatly, without an additional external data cable.

The Alpha7 charger and tethered cable holder were fitted beside the existing meter cabinets in the customer's preferred position. Space was limited, so their positioning needed to keep the installation accessible and practical.

Testing, Commissioning & App Setup

Once the installation was complete, we tested the new circuit and charger and provided the relevant electrical certification.

We helped the customer set up the FastAmps app, including the installer settings for the property supply, and demonstrated timed charging. We also recommended entering the correct electricity tariff so the app can show charging costs.

The Alpha7 can also work with a future solar PV installation, directing surplus generation towards vehicle charging where the wider system is configured to do so.
